위대한 록 그룹

1962년 영국의 리버풀에서 결성되고 1970년에 해산된 전설적인 록 그룹. 존 레논(리드 보컬, 기타), 폴 매카트니(리드 보컬, 베이스), 조지 해리슨(하모니 보컬, 기타), 링고 스타(하모니 보컬, 드럼) 이렇게 4명의 멤버. 1963년 1집 앨범 [Please Please Me]로 데뷔 당시부터 강렬한 록 비트와 머슈롬 커트, 가느다란 깃의 독특한 패션으로 전세계 젊은이들의 우상이 되었다. 1964년 2월 7일 비틀즈를 태운 비행기가 런던 공항을 출발하자, 미국 WMCA 방송은 마라톤 중계하듯 이 세기의 밴드가 자국에 도착하는 모습을 생중계했고 이것은 '브리티쉬 인베이젼(영국의 침략)'의 시작이었다. 다양한 음악의 모든 에센스를 흡수하고 기존의 음악에는 없는 독자적인 사운드를 완성하며 음악계의 모든 기록을 갈아치웠고 전세계적인 비틀즈 열풍을 선도했다. 그들이 음악뿐만 아니라 패션･라이프 스타일･문화 전반에 이르기까지 당시의 젊은이들에게 준 영향은 현재 까지도 이어진다.
