1. put in for ~을 요청하다

어떤 것에 대한 공식적인 요청을 한다는 말이다.

put in for a pay raise

(임금 인상을 요청하다)

2. temperature and precipitation data 기온과 강수량데이터

빈칸이 precipitation에 주어진다. 기온(temperature)과 강수량(precipitation)은 기후를 얘기할 때 종종 같이 나오는 단어들이다.

Researchers will be setting up equipment to collect temperature and precipitation data.

(연구자들은 기온과 강수량 데이터를 수집하기 위해 장비를 설치할 것이다.)

3. cautiously optimistic 조심스럽게 낙관하다

빈칸이 cautiously자리에 주어진다. 너무 많이 기대하지 않도록 조심하면서도 좋은 결과를 기대한다는 의미이다.

Governor Morris said that she is cautiously optimistic about the state's education budget for next year.

(모리스 주지사는 내년 주 교육예산에 대해 조심스럽게 낙관하고 있다고 말했다.)

4. inherently risky 본래 위험한

inherently자리에 빈칸이 오는데 ‘본래, 고유하게’의 뜻을 지닌 단어로, risky. dangerous등과 같이 잘 나온다.

Farming has always been an inherently risky enterprise because farmers operate at the mercy of nature.

5. generate funds 기금을 조성하다

generate자리가 빈칸으로 주어진다. raise funds도 같은 표현이다. generate는 funds외에도 sales, profit, income 등과 함께 쓸 수 있다.

There are several online businesses that help school organizations find new ways to generate funds.
